Danielle and Mike’s wedding day was SO incredibly special. Like so many couples over the past year, Danielle and Mike made the difficult decision to cancel their destination wedding in Turks and Caicos, and instead get married much closer to home alongside their closest family and friends. And I had the incredible honor of capturing this beautiful day.
These two met thanks to a ski trip and a mutual friend! As Danielle tells it, “My friend Joe invited me on a ski trip to Hunter Mountain for a few nights between Christmas and NYE and was supposed to drive me up there. He decided to leave later than planned and I was packed and ready to go, so he said his friend Mike would pick me up and drive me instead. Which I thought was super weird, but was ready and annoyed that I had to wait so figured whatever. He picked me up at my parents’ house and the rest is basically history… we were essentially inseparable from that night on! We ended up extending the rental house a few extra nights and stay with one other couple who are now very close friends of ours.”
Fast forward a few years and Mike officially popped the question! In June of 2020, on a private beach near where the two were staying during quarantine, Mike asked Danielle to marry him. She was beyond surprised, and even more surprised when they returned to the house and an entire engagement party was waiting for them!
“On a Saturday morning, he asked if I wanted to go down to their private beach for breakfast before we went out on my family’s boat. He went and picked up bagels for us while I got dressed and then we walked down to the beach with 2 chairs and a cooler. He proposed about 15 seconds after we set our chairs up! His best friend (and best man) James was in the dunes taking pictures. We stayed at the beach for maybe an hour or so and then went back to the house because I was so anxious and excited to tell my parents and brother and sister. When we got there he had a whole party set up with both of our families, food, champagne, decorations, corn hole… The day was absolutely perfect!”
As Danielle and Mike planned their destination wedding in Turks and Caicos, no one could have predicted just how long the pandemic would last. Although they ultimately had to make the difficult decision to change their plans and instead get married on Long Island where they lived, their wedding day was truly so intimate and special, I am so happy that I was able to be a part of it.
“It’s impossible to put into words how amazing working with Jill has been! My husband and I have known her and her fiancé for a short time and I always followed her on Instagram and was impressed with her work so when we got engaged she was my first thought for a photographer. She spent so much time getting to know our love story and vision before our wedding day. On the day of our wedding, Jill was professional, organized, natural, and a calming presence (which is hard to come by on your wedding day…)! She made us feel SO comfortable and you can clearly tell that from our portraits. I was amazed when she sent us a preview the next morning and speechless when we received our full gallery two weeks later. Our friends and family are also blown away at the quality of our photos and how beautiful they came out. Working with Jill was an absolute dream!”
I couldn’t be happier for these two (who I actually first met at the dog park at the apartment building where we all used to live — Macie and their dog, Remi, are basically besties) and am SO excited for them to start this next chapter of their lives together. Congratulations, Danielle and Mike!
