Some people may not know that from the time I was nine years old until about twenty, horses were my life. Horses are also the reason I got into photography. When I was about twelve years old, I got my first camera – a little point-and-shoot that could fit in my pocket. From there, I fell in love and soon got my first DSLR. I would bring my camera to the barn every day, slowly teaching myself the ins and outs of photography.
Now, over a decade later, my love for photography is still as strong as ever. And while horses are unfortunately no longer a part of my life (because dang, they are expensive!), I am forever grateful that my time riding led me down this path.
Because I don’t get the chance to be around horses much anymore (especially living near New York City), I was so excited when Kiira reached out about scheduling a shoot with her mare, Bougie. We had a beautiful summer morning and, although Bougie wasn’t so eager to put her ears forward, got some beautiful shots that capture the sweet love between Kiira and her girl.
