Bay horses – for those of you who are not so horse-savvy, that means a brown horse with a black mane and tail – will always have a special place in my heart. My first horse, Gus, was a bay off-the-track thoroughbred; my second horse, Toby, was a bay Quarter Horse mix; my third horse, Edward, was a bay Dutch Warmblood; and another horse that I leased, Theo, was a bay Oldenburg.
While that might not mean a lot to some people – and bay horses are one of the most common colors – but it made shooting Megan and Capri all the more nostalgic for me. Capri, however, has a beautiful blue eye, and none of my horses had such a unique feature (although Gus did have a crooked stripe on his face).
Thanks to Megan and Capri for being great models, despite the heat and despite the hot air balloon festival happening across the street from their barn!
