Spring Cross Estate Gardens Engagement

Bernardsville, New Jersey

|

Kathryn and Patrick’s engagement session at Cross Estate Gardens was the perfect way to embrace the spring season! The gardens were in full bloom, and the evening light gave us the most beautiful golden glow as we explored the winding paths and lush greenery. These two have such a sweet connection, and it was a joy to capture their love in such a romantic setting.

Their story began in the most unexpected way — half a world away in the Zurich airport. They were en route to a study abroad program in the summer of 2018, spending two months between Serbia and Bosnia. What started as a fast friendship soon turned into something more. Once they returned to campus that fall, Kathryn asked Patrick to be her date to her sorority formal, and they’ve been together ever since. Six and a half years later, their bond is stronger than ever.

Patrick proposed on July 9, 2024, in a way that perfectly balanced intimacy with family celebration. Kathryn had gone out for drinks with her sister, and when they returned to the apartment the space was decorated with colorful flowers, music playing, and photos from each year of their relationship. Outside the window, both sets of parents — hers local, his visiting from Seattle — along with Patrick’s sister, were standing on the rooftop of their parking garage holding handmade signs. It was thoughtful, emotional, and deeply personal. Afterwards, everyone gathered for dinner to celebrate together.

Kathryn’s ring is a beautiful oval diamond on a pavé band. It’s exactly what she had hoped for. The two had gone ring shopping together a few months before the proposal so she could choose the shape she loved, then Patrick took care of the rest.

Today, they live together in NJ where Kathryn just finished her fourth year of medical school (the day before our session!) and Patrick is completing his third. Despite their hectic schedules, they make time for the things they love: exploring new restaurants, visiting local breweries, playing board games and pickleball, watching their favorite shows, and taking long walks around the neighborhood.

Their engagement session felt relaxed, joyful, and full of warmth — just like the two of them. We wandered through garden paths bursting with spring blooms, chased the golden hour light, and captured so many sweet moments that reflect their easy, genuine love.

Kathryn and Patrick are getting married next May at The Madison Hotel, and I already know it’s going to be such a beautiful celebration. I can’t wait to document the next chapter of their love story!
