Sunrise Brooklyn Bridge NYC Engagement

New York, New York

|

One of my favorite places in the city to shoot is on the Brooklyn Bridge — however, it is also one of the craziest (and at times, scariest!) places to be at any time other than sunrise. There are so many people on bikes and tourists taking photos that shooting here in the evening is just not an option, unless you want to get taken out by a cyclist. When Allie mentioned she and her fiancé, Shray, were thinking about the Brooklyn Bridge for their photos, I was so happy when they agreed to a sunrise session! One of the first things these two did together in NYC was walking the Brooklyn Bridge, which made the location of their session all the more meaningful.

We got the most beautiful, glowy light that morning, and thankfully it wasn’t even as cold and windy on the bridge as I’d expected! I had such a great time with these two, and definitely commend them for getting up and into the city at such an early hour.

Allie and Shray first met in college at the University of Virginia where they both competed on the mock trial team. As Allie tells it, “We weren’t very close our first few years at UVA, but we began spending a lot of time together while preparing for the National Championship Tournament in 2017. Meanwhile, I was finalizing my law school decision. Shray had already decided to join a consulting firm in Chicago, and he joked that if I chose UChicago we would probably end up dating. The day after we won the 2017 National Championship title, I visited (and fortuitously fell in love with) UChicago Law. I committed, and we went on our first date just a few days later!”

Sounds like fate to me! A few years later, Shray proposed to Allie on the Jersey City waterfront pier overlooking downtown Manhattan. Afterwards, they ventured to the top of the Empire State Building to take in the views as a newly engaged couple!

Allie absolutely loves her engagement ring. “It is a radiant cut! I gave Shray a pretty specific idea as to what I was looking for, and we went to the Diamond District and looked at diamonds together. But he’s the one who picked it all out and worked with the jeweler to put it together. I love it so much!”

These two now live in Jersey City, and are hoping to move to NYC after they get married. They love going out to eat (in fact, when they lived in Chicago they kept a running list of every restaurant they went to and rated them!) and going to the movies on the weekend. I’m so excited to celebrate their love story next June at the Ashford Estate!
