Modern City Wedding at The Lighthouse NYC

New York, New York

A perfect day in the city for Mikala and Peter! These two live in Chelsea, and made their marriage official just a few blocks from their home at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.

Mikala and Peter first met in college! As Mikala tells it, “Peter and I met at our business fraternity’s rush event in spring 2014. We are technically “brothers.” It was not love at first sight. I accidentally told Peter’s girlfriend at the time that I had a crush on him when I was pledging the fraternity. It was prompted and very innocent, but that did not go over very well. A few years later, Peter invited a bunch of people to go cliff jumping, and I continued texting him after… even though I never actually went cliff jumping. The rest is history!”

I absolutely love Mikala and Peter’s proposal story — Peter popped the question at Yankee Stadium! “We became big New York Yankees fans while dating, and he proposed to me on season ticket holders day in the middle of the field.” Mikala loves her ring, an oval diamond with a gold band. “I’d been eyeing engagement rings for a while, and knew exactly what I wanted. Although I didn’t go pick it out with him, I made sure to leave him with little room for error. Therefore, the ring wasn’t a total surprise, but I was still shocked when I got it!”

Together these two love to stay active. “On the weekends you will find us either walking along the Hudson, or having a park day in Central Park. We are also in a co-ed volleyball league together! We also go to Broadway shows pretty frequently! I think we went to about five last year — our favorite being Hamilton.”

The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers was the perfect setting for this chapter of Peter and Mikala’s love story. “We chose our venue because it is located on our favorite part of the city — the Hudson River Park. The venue is a ten minute walk from our apartment, and the minute we stepped into it we knew we had to get married there. It has everything we love about the city and it felt very us.”

Going into this wedding day, we knew there were a few uncertainties — portrait locations were very dependent on the weather, and since it was a Friday in the summer we weren’t sure how many tourists we would be dealing with (our gut said, a lot). It was Mikala’s dream for her first look with Peter to be on the High Line, but being that it’s a main tourist attraction in the city we did a site visit ahead of time to find locations that might have less foot traffic. Scouting ahead of time proved to be incredibly helpful, and on the day-of tourists were so kind to happily move out of the shot and leave us be. We also had the most beautiful weather, and for an August day in the city it wasn’t as hot as we expected which was such a blessing.

Overall Mikala and Peter had an absolutely incredible day, and I am so happy for the two of them! Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Rodrigues!
