I absolutely love destination engagement sessions, but they can be definitely be tricky when the weather isn’t on our side! Alison and Steve’s engagement session was originally scheduled for mid-May, but a rainy weekend forced us to push until the following month. However, as we got closer that weekend also had rain in the forecast — for nearly every day. Thankfully, Monday ended up being an overcast but beautiful day, and I was able to move my hotel reservation juust a few times (oops, sorry Newport Harbor Island Resort!).
Alison and Steve actually first met in high school and reconnected again a few years later!
As Alison tells it, “Steve’s older brother and my older sister were friends, so we knew of each other but had never met. When I was a sophomore, I told my sister I was ready for my first boyfriend and she asked who I would be interested in and I said, “I think Steve Joyce is pretty cute.” We dated for a little while in high school, and then reconnected a few years later in college. Steve went to Endicott and I went to Suffolk. We met up at a college hockey game one night and both realized we still loved each other. A few months later, we started dating again and have been together ever since.”
These two got engaged in May of 2022 in one of the most magical places in the world, the island of Capri on the Amalfi Coast! I asked Steve how nerve-wracking it was bringing the ring overseas, and he said that it was definitely not the easiest feat (but totally worth it).
Alison’s stunning engagement ring is a solitaire round cut diamond with a platinum band. “I always knew I wanted a solitaire ring, and loved the classic feel of a round cut diamond. In the fall of 2021, Steve and I were walking through Boston and he brought me to a jeweler store to start looking at rings I would like. The store associate was amazing and ended up working discretely with Steve for the next few months to find the perfect ring. When Steve proposed, it was still a sweet surprise as I hadn’t seen the final ring he chose. I absolutely love and cherish my ring.”
Together Alison and Steve recently bought a home in Rhode Island, and are enjoying decorating and updating their new house. “Steve and I both have similar styles so it has been a fun team project every week figuring out what we are going to tackle next.” On the weekends when they aren’t doing home updates, they love exploring the food and restaurant scene in Rhode Island, going on walks with their sweet dog Lucy, and spending time with family.
I can’t wait to see these two again next May for their wedding day at Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI! Rhode Island weddings are near and dear to my heart, since my husband and I got engaged and married in Newport. I know it’s going to be a beautiful day!
