New York, New York
|
There’s always something so special about photographing a wedding for someone from your hometown, and Shannon’s wedding day felt like an extra full-circle moment. Though we didn’t know each other in high school (I was a few years older), growing up in the same town always adds a layer of connection that makes documenting a couple’s day even more meaningful.
Shannon and DJ’s love story began the way many modern romances do — on Hinge! They matched in the summer of 2019, both just starting their first jobs in New York City, and went on their first date on Stone Street in the Financial District. DJ knew right away she was the one, and while it took a few more date requests before Shannon made it official, they’ve been together ever since. Nearly five years later, DJ proposed during a walk in Central Park, followed by a surprise dinner with their families and a celebration with friends that night. A perfect New York moment for a truly NYC couple.
These two live together in the Financial District, so it was only fitting that their wedding day reflected the city they love so much. From start to finish, Shannon and DJ’s celebration at The Glasshouse was modern, classic, and effortlessly chic. Their vision centered around simplicity — timeless design, subtle city details, and of course, those incredible skyline views. Although rain had been in the forecast, the skies stayed clear through their first look on the terrace, portraits, and their heartfelt ceremony, officiated by DJ’s cousin. The overcast sky added a soft, dreamy quality to the light that made their photos feel even more timeless.
Shannon wore an elegant Pnina Tornai gown with a dramatic train and pearl-dotted veil that added the perfect touch of softness to her sophisticated look. Her bridesmaids each chose a fun pink dress in their own style, from floral prints to bold shades, which brought a fresh and joyful energy to the day. The florals were soft and romantic, mirroring the palette of the bridal party and accenting the space without overpowering the venue’s sleek architecture.
The reception was nothing short of iconic. Soaring windows, modern design, and the most incredible dance floor energy created a celebration that felt as vibrant as the city outside. One of my favorite parts of the night was the very end: the newlyweds dancing on stage, “New York, New York” playing, guests in “I ♥ NY” hats, and late-night snacks from Joe’s Pizza and McDonald’s making the rounds. It was the most fitting end to such a fun and unforgettable day.
Shannon and DJ, thank you for trusting me to capture your love story in a city that clearly means so much to you both. It was such an honor to be a part of this day — and to celebrate two fellow New York City romantics.
