A Vibrant Summer Wedding at The Ryland Inn Grand Ballroom

Whitehouse Station, New Jersey

What a celebration for Maggie and Matt! This was one of those days where we felt like we kept running away from the rain — the forecast would be clear one moment, and the next it would start to drizzle. But thankfully, Ryland Inn is one of my favorite places for a rainy wedding day. With so many covered areas we were able to still get all of the beautiful portraits Maggie and Matt had always dreamed of on their wedding day, and thankfully there wasn’t a raindrop to be felt throughout their entire ceremony.

These two first met in college! As Maggie tells it, “We knew each other freshman year at Villanova, but didn’t keep in touch. I was friends with Matt’s other friends, so we knew each other but did not really hang out. Come senior year we all go on a trip to Las Vegas for fall break — and since then our running joke is what happens in Vegas evidently does not stay in Vegas! We started officially dating a few months later senior year, and since then did long distance post-college for two years while Matt was in Philly and I was in NYC. Then in summer of 2020 Matt moved to NYC where we lived separately but finally in the same city for another two years.” Now Maggie and Matt live together in Hoboken, and it’s safe to say it’s their favorite place they’ve been together so far.

Matt officially popped the question last October and Maggie, of course, said yes! “Matt told me he made dinner reservations with our good friends Greg and Julia. I was a little suspicious of course because he usually isn’t the one planning dinners like this. What I didn’t know was behind the scenes he had planned to propose on our way to dinner along the water in Hoboken. However, Hurricane Ophelia was rolling in and he had to pivot and two days before ran around to every bar and restaurant in Hoboken to find a good spot that was indoors! He ended up with a great spot and got me there in a back private room where he proposed — and then he planned a whole dinner and night with our families and a few of our closest friends. It was perfect!”

Maggie’s ring is absolutely stunning. “We decided to go ring shopping together to try styles on. I always trusted Matt to pick something beautiful out, but I couldn’t commit to what setting I wanted until I tried on. I ended up not even going with any I tried on a send him some inspiration pictures which he then customized off of.”

Aside from having great options for rainy wedding days, Ryland Inn was the perfect setting for Maggie and Matt’s celebration. They decided they didn’t want a glam ballroom feel, so the atmosphere at Ryland was perfect for what they were envisioning. “We chose Ryland because it fit our perfect vibe of a fun, beautiful summer venue that we could dress up to make our own. Fun fact, when we toured the book they gave us to look through there is a photo of me catching the bouquet at my friends wedding from two years prior before we were even engaged!”

Maggie envisioned the color palette for her wedding day to be a gradient of colors inspired a summer sunset — think pinks, peaches, yellows, etc. From the gorgeous mismatched bridesmaids dresses to the stunning vibrant floral installations, Maggie’s vision truly came to life and was an absolute dream to photograph.

I couldn’t be happier for these two, congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Kelly!
