Brooklyn Bridge Park DUMBO Engagement

Brooklyn, New York

|

Hannah and Tommy were an absolute blast to work with! We met up by the West Elm in Brooklyn Bridge Park (aka one of my favorite places ever) and Pebble Beach, and instantly it felt like we’d known each other forever.

Which, in a way, we sort of did know each other — Hannah and Tommy both went to (and met at) Bryant University, where I went to school as well! It feels like whenever you meet someone also from your alma mater you are instantly kindred spirits, bonding over the same inside jokes about the terrible food in the dining hall and fond memories (or lack thereof) in the local dive bars.

While I didn’t know Hannah and Tommy at school, I’m sure glad they found each other there! They initially met through mutual friends, and hit it off as soon as the spring semester ended. Hannah was living on Block Island for the summer and Tommy would come to visit her until school started back up. They officially started dating in the fall of 2015! After Hannah graduated in 2017, she moved to New York City with Tommy and their two cats.

Tommy popped the question in… probably the best place ever. “In Curacao!” as Hannah tells it. “We went on a tropical vacation with some of our closest friends, and he proposed on a gorgeous cliff. I 100% knew it was coming but it was still special and beautiful.”

Despite the lack of surprise, Tommy did an amazing job planning the proposal and Hannah, of course, said yes!

In their spare time, these two love watching football and skiing. Although Hannah mentions, “When I say ski… he skis while I cry because I’m so bad. But we love the mountains and winter. Is that a hobby?”

Hannah and Tommy were both so much fun to work with, despite the fact that neither one of them loves having their photo taken. Looking back at these photos, you could have fooled me! They were such a natural, fun-loving couple — which is why it’s all the more crazy that a few weeks later Hannah admitted to me that they had gotten into a fight right before their engagement session about Tommy’s hair and considered not coming to the shoot! We were laughing and joking the whole time, so I truly had no idea. Props to these two for powering through and letting me capture these sweet, intimate moments between the two of them.

I so appreciate these sweet words from Hannah about our session. “Our experience with Jill was incredible. Neither of us likes being in front of the camera, and when people try to take our pictures we quite literally run away. However, Jill had a way to make us feel extremely comfortable, even while in a large crowd. We were worried we wouldn’t have any pictures that we liked for our save the dates, but after getting them back it turned out to be nearly impossible to choose just one! The editing, variety, and organic feel of the photos are absolutely perfect. I would (and already have) recommend Jill to absolutely anyone!”

Congratulations to Hannah and Tommy, and go bulldogs!!!
