I had such a fun evening with Genevieve and Joe in Spring Lake! These two first met in college, and as Gen tells it, “Joe and I both went to Gettysburg College, and I met him the weekend before I was leaving for my fall semester abroad in 2013. He was a year above me, so when I got back, it was his senior spring semester. We definitely knew we liked each other and were dates to every sorority and frat date party we had, but we didn’t really pursue an official relationship since he was graduating and I was going to be home in Virginia for the summer. We kept in touch frequently, and Joe ended up inviting me to visit him in New Jersey and go to a Smash Mouth concert at the Stone Pony, and from there the rest was history.”
Gen and Joe got engaged in May of 2022! “Joe proposed in front of the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. We went back to his parents’ house for a party after, where he surprised me with his whole family and also my parents, who came up from Virginia. I’ve literally never cried so much in my entire life — thank God for waterproof mascara!”
Gen’s ring is so incredibly beautiful! “I like to make choices for myself, especially when it comes to long-term commitments like an engagement ring, but I also love to be surprised. So, this was a little tricky for Joe when he was trying to pick out a ring. My girlfriend was nice enough to come with me to look at rings and communicate to Joe what I wanted, sizing, etc. After the sales associated informed me my fingers were “square” and that longer rings would flatter my finger more, I landed on a radiant cut. Joe’s mom’s cousin is a jeweler, so he worked with her to create exactly what I wanted. I was a little nervous some design elements might get lost in translation, but they nailed it and I couldn’t love it more!”
Together these two live in Jersey City and absolutely love spending time with their sweet pup, Ollie! “Whether we’re all snuggled up on the couch or we’re out to dinner and drinks at an outdoor spot in the summer, Ollie tends to come with us wherever we go. Joe and I also discovered early on that we both absolutely love live music, so going to concerts together is one of our favorite things to do and also one of our favorite things to gift each other for holidays and birthdays. And, since we’re both fairly competitive, we’ve been known to enjoy a game night or two — it’ll be hard to find someone who can beat us in Heads Up.”
I truly can’t wait to celebrate Gen and Joe next July at Maritime Parc, it’s going to be such a beautiful day!
